If you’re anything like me, your walls are a canvas waiting to burst into life. There’s something magical about how art can transform a space, turning a blah room into a exciting sanctuary. While original paintings are awesome, and sometimes more affordable than you think, when it comes to adding that spark of color and charm, nothing quite beats playful artistic prints. They’re like little bursts of happiness that invite smiles, spark conversation, and make your home one of a kind.

Art Prints Are a Game-Changer for Your Space

You might wonder, why choose playful art prints over traditional art? Well, here’s the thing: playful prints bring a lightheartedness that’s hard to resist. They don’t take themselves too seriously, and that’s exactly why they work so well in making a room feel welcoming and fun.

Think about it - a splash of quirky colors, unexpected shapes, and imaginative scenes can instantly lift your mood. Plus, they’re incredibly versatile. Whether you want to brighten up a cozy reading nook, add character to your kitchen, or create a whimsical gallery wall, these prints fit right in.

Here’s what I love about them:

  • They incite joy: The playful nature of these prints can turn a dull corner into a happy place.

  • They start conversation : Guests can’t help but ask about that cheeky Buffalo or the unusual floral.

  • They suit all styles: From modern minimalism to eclectic vintage, there’s a playful print for every taste.

So, if you’re ready to inject some personality into your home, art prints can your new best friend.

How to Choose the Perfect Prints for Your Home

Choosing art can feel overwhelming, right? But when it comes to playful artistic prints, the process can be as fun as the art itself. Here’s how I approach it:

  1. Consider your space: Is it a small nook or a large wall? Bright prints can energize a small space, while larger pieces can anchor a big room.

  2. Think about color: Do you want the print to pop or blend? If your room is neutral, a vibrant print can be a fantastic focal point.

  3. Match your vibe: Are you into whimsical animals, abstract shapes, or unusual landscapes? Pick prints that resonate with your personality.

  4. Mix and match: Don’t be afraid to combine different prints. A gallery wall with varied prints can be a visual feast.

Personally, I like to start with one statement piece and then build around it. It’s like creating a story on your walls, and every print adds a new chapter.

Tips for Displaying Your Art Like a Pro

Now that you’ve picked your prints, how do you show them off? Here are some tips that have worked wonders for me:

  • Frame with flair: Choose frames that complement the art but don’t overpower it. Often simple black or white frames do the trick, but a splash of color can add extra wow.

  • Create a gallery wall: Arrange multiple prints in a grid or a more freeform layout. Play with sizes and orientations for a dynamic look. If you worry it's too busy, repeat one element to make it all relate. For example; every frame is different... but they are all painted the same color or the frames are various colors but the mats are alike. You can also use smaller groups within the wall. Do 3 identical frames but hung in a close line. Group four rectangles to make a square on the middle of your wall.

  • Use unexpected spots: Don’t limit yourself to the living room. Prints look fantastic in bathrooms, halls, next to the front door and even kitchen backsplashes make a surprising splash of color.

  • Layer with other decor: Combine prints with shelves, plants, or quirky objects to create a a personal vibe. Even 3d objects add interest and round out your story.

And here’s a little secret: don’t stress about perfection. The charm of playful artistic prints is in their great unpredictability!

Where to Find Art and Prints That Speak to You

If you’re on the hunt for that perfect piece, you’re in luck. There are many places to discover unique art that feels personal. Here are some of my favorite sources:

  • Local art fairs and markets: Nothing beats finding a print from a local artist who's heart is in their heart in their work. If you live in a touristy area, like Hawaii, these are a wealth of artistic expression. Things are usually priced well too.

  • Online marketplaces: Websites like Etsy or independent artist shops offer a treasure trove of whimsical art prints. Just be very aware of scams pretending to be ETSY. Try REDBUBBLE. They go far beyond the typical print. You can literally tie an entire room together with your favorite PRINT complimented by a matching shower curtain, bath mat, or throw pillows.

  • Thrift stores can be a bonanza! Works usually have hot prices and WAY more likely to be unique than something from Ross or Target.

  • Artist blogs and websites: There are many artists collections online. Buying directly supports their craft. DEVIANT ART is an odd name but they have galleries galore. You will find every possible kind of art from traditional landscapes to Manga and ultra contemporary pieces.

Making Your Space Truly Yours with Playful Artistic Prints

At the end of the day, decorating with prints is about expressing yourself. It’s about creating a space that feels good to be in. There's a world of possibilities to make home a reflection of your unique spirit.

So, go ahead - mix, match, and play! Let your walls tell stories that make you smile every time you walk by. After all, isn’t that what art is all about?

Have a great time decorating, and may your walls be ever playful and bright!

This is all new to me, so please bear with me. After doing art for years, I have rarely "shown" it. I did couple gallery shows long ago, Emerald City Comic-Con 2013-2019 but friends and family mostly. Today I am launching my website for that very reason, to put some of my work where more people can see it.

The portfolio is a collection of new works and past pieces, when I thought to photograph them. As I have struggled with things it occurred to me that the complications, which age is throwing at me, cannot be unique to me. I mean I can't be the only woman in her seventies trying to figure out how to put on mascara with a shaking hand. Without putting your eye out that is! I feel like the same thing applies to artwork. Whether it's painting or stringing beads, some days are just better than others. So, what do you do? Wait until you get a perfect day, physically? Let's face it, that will cut your (our) days, to enjoy doing things, down to a rare few. Well, that’s just not fair!!!

I don't know about you, but for me asking for help is torture. Yes, I know I spent many years doing for others and many people are more than willing to help. The fact is I just hate it.  The pinnacle of this is that the things one does for enjoyment or fulfilment CANNOT be done for you. If someone else paints a picture for you, or strings the beads , well... you can see where I'm going with this, right?

So, I would love to hear from about how you work around the obstacles. When your eyes are dry, your hands are shaky, or your joints are too sore to hold your paintbrush the way you used to. Have you discovered "hacks" for getting things done, and being able to enjoy it?

As I said this is a first for me showing my work to, hopefully, many people, but for blogging too. I am hoping that I'm not the only one who doesn't get out as much as they used to. I would love to "talk" to you all about your opinions and your brilliant suggestions, or witty comments if that's all you've got.

In case you're wondering, we are a family of water lovers. Thus, the diving reference. We all know if the water is cold the best approach is... DIVE RIGHT IN.
